Yes, you read that right…I’m talking about jade rollers (*aff ) here. I think the jade roller (which can be quartz too…) is the ultimate self-care facial massage accessory, along with the Gua Sha (*aff) stone.

In case you haven’t seen a jade roller, here’s what it looks like:

I’ll be honest when I first started seeing the jade rollers everywhere (circa 5 years ago), I was really skeptical. It just didn’t arouse my interest. I thought, “oh, another random skincare item nobody needs”. But, wow, I was sooo ignorant. It feels so nice to massage your face with a jade roller daily.

Let me tell you more about the benefits of using a Jade Roller daily.

Initially, it’s going to help you tone your face and massage your skin. And it will feel good.

But there are also some great health benefits too. Massaging your skin lightly with the jade roller aids with lymphatic drainage. It basically helps your lymph nodes get rid of toxins in your body. The massage also helps improve the blood circulation in your face, which can reduce puffiness.

So you see, it’s more than just a skincare toy.

There’s a lot of false information going around that claims jade rollers are the ultimate anti-aging tool. Sure, they can help your skin look firmer, which can make you feel younger in some cases. But the main role of the jade roller is to massage your face. And guess what? Massages are an essential part of skincare.

Most dermatologists agree on one thing, facial massage is effective when done correctly.

My personal experience with jade rollers goes like this…

I ordered my Jade Roller & Gua Sha (*aff) in a set. At first, I didn’t know how to use it properly so I watch a few tutorials on Youtube. Then, I decided to give it a go, and honestly, I felt so relaxed afterward. Now it’s an unskippable step in my nightly skincare routine.

Here’s how I use it each night before bed:

Step 1: I remove all of my make-up and cleanse.

Step 2: I apply a facial oil or serum and wait for it to absorb into the skin. My personal favorite is The Ordinary Hylauronic Acid Serum (2%) (*aff). If you’re not into hyaluronic acid, you can use any type of rosehip oil, (*aff), or other facial serums you like.

Step 3: I begin to gently massage my face with the jade roller without applying too much pressure. When you press too hard, you risk bursting tiny blood vessels. Move the roller across the face in an outward motion, starting from the “interior” and move towards the edges of your face. Don’t roll back and forth. Instead, roll downwards and across.

Step 4: I go over each area of my face about 3 to 5 times, depending on how much time I have. You have to target all the areas of your face. Start with the larger stone and massage the forehead, the cheeks, the jaw, and the area around the brows.

Step 5: Now, I switch to the side with the small stone. First, I target the under-eye area which is very puffy for me. I also roll over my crow’s feet and wrinkles. I go over the puffy under-eye area about 10 times most nights.

Step 6: I always use the roller on my neck too. From the chest are, move the roller upwards on your neck until you reach your chin and jawline.

As you can see, it’s not complicated and it doesn’t take more than ten to fifteen minutes each night. It’s going to help you release all the muscle tension in your face and jaw. Trust me, it feels so good to massage those areas, you’re going to be addicted!
